September 6th, 2002

Harbor Pavilion, Portsmouth, VA with special guest Kansas

Photos aren't great because we aren't allowed to take photos at all, and not only could we not use a flash, but you aren't allowed to move from your seats. I had a digital camera that didn't have high shutter speed; everything looks blurry at night when even in tiny bit of motion.  This is the best I could do. Styx was really great.  They look good for their ages, they play well, they really seem to enjoy the fans and move around a lot and have some extras in the show like confetti, taking photos and throwing lots of stuff into the audience.  Tommy Shaw even let a bunch of women grab his butt! Best part though was the music.

Left to right: Have no idea.... the photos are very blurry. We didn't have a great camera then. Photo 4 though I can tell is Tommy Shaw

Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre   Virginia Beach, VA with Special Guests Peter Frampton and Nelson.

Peter Frampton (left) plays with Bass guitarist James Young from Styx, second shot is Ricky Phillips from Styx with one of the Nelson's, third shows Ricky with a beach ball, Center is  Ricky Sucherman, the hardworking drummer, fifth photo is a great shot of Tommy Shaw and to the left some of the band, sixth photo is Tommy singing, Finally James young, not sure who else and Tommy Shaw. I don't seem to have a good one of Lawrence Cowan the Keyboard player, but you can see his image above from the 2002 concert.  He was at this one, but all I have is some very small wide-shots with him in it. Another GREAT show.

Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre   Virginia Beach, VA with Special Guests Foreigner  and Kansas.

Another GREAT show. Obviously, we've seen Styx probably more than any other band... 5 times so far. I didn't realize that till now!  This time, they still sounded very good, all these years later and still one of our most favorite sounding bands who show enthusiasm still. They love what they do. That much if obvious.  Although I've seen them a little more glitzy in the past, I still saw the spunk and spark that the fans love.  For being as old as I am, they look pretty darn good too.  Fans were treated to a very special guest appearance: Chuck Panozzo, founding member, came to play bass about half way through.  That was a nice surprise for us all...
