While living in North Dakota for 5 years, there wasn't much to do. One mall in Minot and the better shopping area in Bismarck, but still a small farming community. During our 5 years stationed there, we went to what we found; South Dakota and Canada, but in North Dakota itself, only a wild life things to do. Much of the Dakotas are prairie lands and dirt. Not even trees. We use to joke the state tree was the telephone pole and the state bird was the mosquito (they grow them big there). Prairie dogs, most affectionately called Dak Rats, were the state animal... other than that, there wasn't much else but wind and snow... but we found Lake Metigoshe and went with Scott's Dad and Carol; staying in campsite then moving to a cottage. We didn't do much there. A small cheap looking Mini golf, reading the paper, taking a walk. The kids played in the water a bit (with the pollywogs and fish). We just enjoyed doing NOTHING; Roasting marshmallows at the campfire etc. The park is free; cabin prices/campsites vary. See link above for that information. This is the only real place with loads of trees in our part of ND. There was NO running hot water or water INSIDE the cottage. There was a hose out back. That was your shower (and it was lake water I guess because it smelled like it! We only stayed one night; I don't do well without washing my hair!
Left to Right: 1) Jason on a Merry Go Round 2) The family; playing Mini Golf 3) Scott Carved SH & SH with a heart into a tree) 4) Sue swings Jeremy on tree swing. 5) Roasting Marshmallows
