Hoover Dam, Boulder City, Nevada

We went to Hoover dam on the way to Las Vegas from Tucson, but when we took photos, none came out except one of Lake Meade... so below are some postcards I picked up.  I think our film got exposed.  Anyway, the dam is a marvel of human ingenuity. The are is, at elevation, 1221.4 feet and the reservoir covers 157,900 acres or 247 square miles. It is located in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between Arizona and Nevada. The dam, located 48 km (30 miles) southeast of Las Vegas, is named after former US president Herbert Hoover. It was dedicated by FDR in 1935 and cost 45 million dollars to build There's not much to do there. There's a deck observatory with a telescope and a small gift area with vending machines.  Price is free; tours arranged I think, but I don't know the cost.  Please visit the official site for information and hours.
