Universal Studios, Los Angeles, CA

We lived in California a few years (almost 4) and loved it there. There was a lot to do.  We were stationed at March AFB, CA.  Alas, I was pregnant and in the Air Force the first year and got out when I had the baby (worked out I had the baby and came back for only ONE last day after my maternity leave ended...just so happened to correspond exactly with my end of enlistment!).  Anyway, my favorite thing there was the Swap meets on the weekends and going to the park with the kids.  We did get so see a lot of stuff there too like the San Diego and LA Zoos (when you have kids, that's what you do).

Universal Studios was quite fun.  You go on a tram ride to see sets and buildings used in film (some actually used today; one block was filming while there and we couldn't go through because of that.  Also, there are back stage and behind the scenes things to hear how movies are made. When we went, there were a couple exhibits like the Knight Rider Car and the A-Team van, but that was back then; now they have stuff from the current day which might be of interest to tourists.  There was a Smurf and Western stunt show.  I am sure the Smurf's a long replaced with something contemporary. Now there are rides; there really wasn't any before.  Also, the restaurnt situation has changed from stands to get typical stuff (Hot Dogs, Nachos etc) to the City Walk, with specialty restaurants.  Universal Studios was well worth the admission price.  Please visit the official site for hours and days of operation as well as admission prices.   There is shopping available and something for everyone.
