September 2nd, 2006
American Music Fest Virginia Beach, VA
No ticket or pamphlet
We went to American Music Fest September 2nd and 3rd, 2006. This is an annual event which is free to the public. Well, it's not totally free; you get to pay for parking. Beware...this year we learned about two things: one is metered parking can only last up to 3 hours; so you'll have to walk back to your car to put in another couple bucks. This is bad considering you could be parked along 5th street area and have to walk as far as 31st street!. So if you end up doing this cheaper option, take the trolley (you'll need a dollar each way for that). Or you can opt for the all night 10.00 parking that various people use (yeah, some scam they got going). The other thing we learned was about towing! No, we didn't get towed, but we saw a LOT of people being towed. I saw maybe a dozen tow trucks in a short period of time. So watch for those no parking signs; they mean business! If you are using garage event parking, you will need to arrive two or more hours early; everything books up fast. This year, events were cancelled Friday night because of hurricane/tropical storm Ernesto. So KC and the Sunshine Band, Gloria Gaynor, Sister Sledge and Tavares were cancelled. There were MANY bands each day. We only saw four of them. This night we saw Gatorhead and Blue Oyster Cult. The next night we saw Adelyn and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Gatorhead wasn't too bad at all...
